Tai Chi Chuan is the ancient Chinese art of moving meditation. It
is based on the Taoist understanding that all things comprise the
harmony of two complementary forces - Yin and Yang. Tai Chi
therapy has recently been considered as an alternative method for
lowering the blood pressure levels. This discovery has big
implications for patients who are suffering from chronic
hypertension. Knowing this makes it possible for such people to
avoid negative effects of continuous intake of prescribed
anti-hypertension drugs. Let's take a closer look at some issues
surrounding such therapy with regard to blood pressure monitoring.
The potential of Tai Chi therapy to lower the high blood
pressure is growing, as we are continuing to live in high stress
conditions. When we experience stress, our body elicits a certain
response to the stressful situation. The prolonged periods of
stress lead to chronic blood pressure |

fluctuations and create physical changes in your body organs. All
of these in their turn intensify hypertensive conditions. When we
are stressed, our pituitary gland releases a hormone called ACTH (adrenocorticotropic
hormone) which is triggering other glands, including adrenal
glands, to produce enormous amounts of adrenaline.
Meditation, including Tai Chi therapy, leads to a relaxation
response. This can result in loosening the walls of the arteries
that carrying the blood to the brain. This way the blood supply to
the brain is increasing. Apart from reducing the high blood
pressure, repetitive activities (i.e., Tai Chi, Yoga, and others)
can positively affect metabolic rate, heart and breathing rate,
and other life supporting processes. People practicing Tai Chi
have documented less frequent headaches, diarrhea, and are less
prone to anger, anxiety, and frustration. It boosts their energy
level and adds to their daily activities.
It is apparent that Tai Chi has certain effects on regulating the
high blood pressure, in addition to strengthening the immune
system and reinforcing the respiratory system. However, it does
not work the same for everyone. Although Tai Chi studies do show
that Tai Chi indeed helps lower high blood pressure, it is true
that it does not reduce it in every person. On the other hand, the
same applies for the prescribed medications that do not affect
each patient in exactly the same way. The questions arises: ' Why
are the effects of Tai Chi not looked into deeper, and why do the
doctors not proscribe Tai Chi, even when we know that it can lower
the blood pressure for those people who are doing well with it?"
It is an important question to ponder over, and raise awareness
about. As Tai Chi therapy becomes more and more known, its
potential becomes more and more apparent. Therefore, there is
little excuse for medical universities and future health
specialists not to apply Tai Chi knowledge to benefit their
patients.
It is undeniable that practicing Tai Chi can be a great way to
lower and normalize your blood pressure. Therefore, we once again
encourage you to consider the benefits of this technique for
yourself. A whole new world of health and radiance will open up
for you if you are open to taking on the Tai Chi therapy. |
